The former permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN, Yuriy Sergeev, remains today the single most valuable witness in the trial against fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych, and the urgency of summoning him to the Obolonsky District Court of Kiev to testify on August 15 is due to at least partly supporting the arguments of the state prosecution.

This was reported, citing a source in the judicial authorities. “Ukrainian news”.

As the source noted, “many of us who are closely involved in this case or are observing it professionally, express the opinion that the prosecutor’s initially chose the wrong tactics - they chose an article, and indeed the whole topic, on which even if you and I get Once there is an indictment, politically or legally it will definitely look unconvincing, first of all, for our international partners.”

“This means that in relation to Yanukovych we can again get something like the latest story with Interpol, which removed him from the wanted list because it considered the evidence from the prosecutor’s office unconvincing,” explains the publication’s interlocutor.

“The problem today is that the new key witness in this case, Sergeev, may give testimony that either will not really add anything to the case, or will contradict the tactics of the state prosecution on a number of important points,” the source added. – For example, if this witness previously gave testimony that is supported by the case, then in court he cannot change them, since as a result such a witness may someday be brought to criminal liability for giving false information. And this is from two to five years of imprisonment. Let’s say, if he saw that Churkin distributed some letter to the UN without Yanukovych’s signature or that it was a photocopy, or that he only heard his statement that the reason for sending Russian troops into Crimea was the appeal of the self-proclaimed Aksenov, then in Ukrainian In court, he has no choice as to how to provide this information.

The protocols of Sergeev’s interrogation, published earlier in the media, have confused the cards for the state prosecution, since the diplomat must now repeat in court a number of facts that are inconvenient for prosecutors. Otherwise, Yanukovych’s lawyers will inflate the case of giving false testimony and will trumpet it at every corner.”
