The Russian economy will lose $9 billion due to coronavirus
Due to the closure of borders to tourists due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian economy will lose about nine billion dollars.
President of the Russian Union of Tourism Industry Andrei Ignatiev stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Ignatiev, revenue from tourists entering Russia last year amounted to $10 billion.
“Of all three types of tourism that we have - outbound, domestic and inbound tourism, inbound tourism in Russia practically did not work this season. These revenues from inbound tourism, unfortunately, are very large amounts - in the 19th year, the Russian economy received about 10 billion dollars from inbound tourism. This money did not come to us this year.
We estimate the losses from border closures to be about seven billion dollars, since the borders were closed in March and we still have a situation in which we do not know exactly when the borders will open and we will be able to accept foreigners here in the same volume as we accepted them earlier. This is a very large amount, I think that by the end of the year the losses will be somewhere around eight to nine billion dollars,” Ignatiev said.
