Due to its racist past, the US Democratic Party faces renaming
The war that broke out in the United States with monuments under anti-racist slogans calls into question the existence of the American state.
Evgenia Pimenova, a researcher at the Institute of International Studies (IIS) at MGIMO, writes about this in Izvestia.
According to her, the current protests have serious socio-cultural and political reasons that need to be dealt with in detail, but nevertheless, the expert believes that an all-out war on monuments is a dangerous path leading to a complete deconstruction of history.
“Why, for example, did the protesters limit themselves to only demolishing the monument to the slave owner and founding father of the United States, George Washington? Following this logic, it is then necessary to rename the capital of the United States, giving it a more politically correct name.
Or, for example, why does the US Democratic Party, which historically arose as a public association representing the interests of large landowners and slave traders, limit itself only to the genuflection of the Chairman of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi? The activities of this political force, historically based on vicious ideas of racial superiority, should be completely stopped,” notes the political scientist.
She emphasizes that there are many examples of this kind that can be cited.
“In other words, this is a Pandora’s box, which will lead to the need to completely ban America and the West. And in general, it already seems that it will be much easier to re-found the Earth and build a new world - noble, tolerant, similar to Eden. However, these are just fantasies, and the reality is that our world is imperfect, moreover, it is cruel and unfair, its development passed through various complex and dramatic stages and dark historical pages. In this world there was slavery, apartheid, Nazism and fascism, anti-Semitism and a host of other vicious phenomena,” sums up Pimenova.
