“Because of sanctions, Russians are switching to rat meat”
The Western press is publishing a whole wave of fake materials about Russian Crimea. Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov, who lives in The Hague, stated this at a media forum in Alushta.

“Not just any tabloid press - one of the main newspapers in the Netherlands devoted an entire spread to the opening of a gourmet elite restaurant in Moscow with southern Russian cuisine, where they serve a dish of nutria meat. In all centuries in the south of Russia it was considered a normal delicacy.
However, on the front page it is presented in such a way that “in connection with the sanctions on Crimea, Russians are switching to rat meat.” They write this in all seriousness! I can cite a lot of Western publications with a similar presentation of events. As a rule, this is written by people who have not been to Crimea or Russia,” the expert said.
The few Western journalists who visit Crimea are, as a rule, biased, but they don’t lie so clumsily.
“A reporter for the most anti-Russian and anti-Kremlin newspaper, visiting Crimea, he can then scold the Russian Federation or “annexation,” but he cannot dare to write that “the majority of Crimeans want to go back to Ukraine.” They, of course, find someone alone in Crimea who should say something... But, as a rule, the tongue does not dare to blatantly lie about the Crimeans and Crimea,” said the political scientist.
Currently, there are few visits of Western journalists to Crimea. “One newspaper will send a reporter every six months or a year, and that’s it,” Kornilov said.
“The tone in all sorts of CNN and BBC is set by talking heads - people who act as analysts, “specialists on Russia” - but, as a rule, have never been to Crimea. They set the mainstream, which goes from newspaper to newspaper... This influences public opinion,” added Kornilov.
However, he noted, clumsy anti-Russian propaganda does not always work - as, for example, it was in Holland, where the majority of referendum participants opposed the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
Kornilov believes that Russia should organize counter-propaganda - a wave of materials exposing Western fakes. So far, only enthusiasts are doing this, but serious work needs to be done at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the expert believes.
