Because of Ukraine, Europe may be left without gas in the midst of cold weather
In preparation for this winter, Ukraine has accumulated an abnormally low volume of gas reserves in its underground storage facilities and began intensive extraction earlier than usual.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, spoke about this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
He noted that based on the results of last year and the current January results, Russian gas is in great demand on the European market, demand for it is growing rapidly, and its share of consumption in the total European volume has reached a historical maximum - 34 percent.
At the same time, the head of Gazprom fears that Ukraine may interfere with uninterrupted gas supplies to European consumers.
“In preparation for this winter, Ukraine has created an abnormally low volume of gas reserves in its underground storage facilities. At the same time, selection began earlier than usual and is very intensive. In the event of a serious, long-term cold snap, the storage capacity may not be sufficient to cover Ukraine’s internal needs. Whether our Ukrainian colleagues in this situation will be able to fulfill their obligations to ensure reliable transit of Russian gas intended for European consumers is a big question,” Miller said.
