The grounds for a possible epidemic arise due to the war and the difficult economic situation in the country, said the chief physician of the Lviv Regional Phthisiopulmonology Center Lyubomir Rak.

In the Lviv region last year, 1659 patients with various forms of tuberculosis were detected. However, most of them had lung lesions. It is this form, doctors say, that is dangerous for others.

“A patient with a sensitive form of tuberculosis is treated for 6 months, in some cases – 8 months. His treatment costs the state a small amount, we calculated - about 600-700 UAH for the entire course of treatment. Whereas treatment of a patient with chemoresistant tuberculosis lasts 22 months. The cost of such treatment is 70-100 thousand UAH,” said Lyubomir Rak.
