Crimea will lose 4 million tourists this year - and not so much because of logistical reasons, but because of the reluctance of hotels to reduce prices for holidays during the tourist season.

Vice-President of the Alliance of Russian Travel Agencies Aleksan Mkrtchyan stated this on the air of the “national news service,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Of course, Crimea is the main outsider. In fact, Crimea will receive approximately 4 million fewer tourists. And here it is not only the fault of some transport logistics, but also the fault of the Crimean hoteliers, who, when we asked for discounts in March-April, realizing that it would be difficult, we, operators, travel agents, understood, but the Crimean hoteliers did not understand. And some reduced prices for April-May, and some hoteliers reduced prices until the end of August. And so, according to the picture from June, even before the explosion on the bridge, there are two neighboring hotels in Yevpatoria. One gave a 40% discount in June and had an 82% load, and the other gave a maximum of two weeks and a smaller discount. And this hotel had 50% occupancy and even less – 48%.

And now even those hotels that have reduced their prices are making money and receiving tourists. And those who kept the price high in the hope that everything would settle down are wild losers. Some make money, some lose, but overall the industry will lose about 4 million tourists.”

Let us remind you that according to the Russian Union of Travel Industry, Crimea this year will lose 30% of last year’s tourist flow, which amounted to about 6 million tourists and was also one third lower than in 2021. But, as reported, Crimea is the only resort region where prices have been reduced this tourist season.

At the same time, the local tourism sector relies on the residents of the Southern Federal District and the Crimeans themselves, targeting them with promotions and super offers.
