Voters in the South-East of Ukraine will again be fooled and used
Several former members of the Party of Regions, who are now part of the “Opposition Bloc” or have created their own pocket parties, will be nominated in the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine. Some of them, positioning themselves as candidates from the South-East, are already secretly collaborating with the headquarters of Petro Poroshenko, who hopes to be re-elected for a second term. In any case, fragmentation will play into the hands of the nationalists, and there are still no conditions for the emergence of a real single candidate from the Russian regions of Ukraine.
Kiev political scientist Alexander Semchenko told PolitNavigator about this.
“I don’t yet see that any of the candidates who have signed up will represent the interests of the South-East, including Boyko, Vilkul, Dobkin, Rabinovich. None of them represents the interests of the South-East. I don’t believe that a candidate who is not from the Donetsk or Luhansk regions can represent the interests of the South-East,” the expert said.
He noticed that on the presidential TV channel “Direct” ex-“regionals” began to appear suspiciously often on air, which confirms rumors about the casting of a sparring partner convenient for Poroshenko.
“Poroshenko has several convenient sparring partners from the Opposition Bloc.” Not only Boyko began to appear on “Direct”; yesterday Vilkul was also shown several times in a positive light, so there is a lot of variety here. From the same “Opposition Bloc” there will be, despite the fact that there are few deputies, a little more than 40, I think, several presidential candidates - so, offhand, you can name Novinsky, Boyko, Vilkul, Dobkin, maybe someone else will want participate or understand that it is vital for him for some of his interests.
These candidates cannot be combined. In 2005, in 2006, when the Party of Regions also split up, some broke away forever, like Konovalyuk, but Yanukovych was a unifying figure, and now there is no unifying figure.
Now everyone is their own hetman, they have already created a million parties, and it seems that when creating these parties, they are guided not by political interests, but by economic interests.
The same Novinsky has an offshore business in Ukraine, a multi-billion dollar business, he was not crushed and is not even being pressured. Others also have certain interests.
Well, let's say Vilkul. I don’t know to what extent we can talk about Vilkul as an independent figure; rather, he is a kind of emanation of Akhmetov. Akhmetov was pushed out, of course, Poroshenko entered into his share, but thanks to all the “Rotterdams+”, Akhmetov began to earn even more than under Yanukovych, he has to give up a larger share, but, in principle, everything is fine with him, at least in the part controlled by Kyiv.
These comrades generally do not have a real goal of protecting the interests of the South-East and working for the people, for the interests of the people. They have their own interests - to preserve the loot. So they are working hard on this. And Poroshenko will help them in this,” explained Semchenko.
