The first story is about Maria Anatolyevna Mikhnovskaya, whose son Evgeniy went missing. On September 14, armed men in camouflage broke into their house. They took her son and his almost new car with them. Since then, the woman has been turning to all authorities, the police, the SBU, the military, and the Red Cross mission in vain attempts to find her missing son. She only hears distant rumors that he was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. The grieving mother, openly opposed to the Kyiv authorities, is afraid to give biological material for a DNA test, as she fears that by doing so she will hasten the death of her son in one of the secret SBU prisons, and he will indeed be returned to her, but already dead.

Kramatorsk resident Victoria Khoroshalia, who lost her brother in October 2014, has a similar story. He also disappeared along with the car in which he was carrying humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since then, various suspicious individuals have approached her, claiming that they saw her brother languishing in one of the notorious “basements” either in the DPR or in the LPR, but they could not provide any evidence.
