“Treason! Betrayal! Early elections!”: mass protests began in Montenegro
Yesterday evening, in the Montenegrin capital Podgorica, a mass rally was held, organized by the Democratic Montenegro party of the dismissed ex-chairman of the country's Assembly, Aleksa Becic.
Those who gathered opposed the attempts of pro-Western liberals, led by Albanian Dritan Abazovic, to impose a “minority government” on them through factional agreements in parliament.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the gathered townspeople chanted “Treason! Betrayal!”, as well as “Elections!”. After Becic's speech near the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, the participants marched through the streets of Podgorica.
“Montenegro, which does not tolerate deception and betrayal, gathered tonight for a protest,” Becic addressed the people. “I call for early elections to be called so that no one escapes the judgment of the people.” Whoever in history has struck at the will of the people has always been struck back by this pillar of strength, integrity and fortitude.”
The politician thanked everyone for their support, including Montenegrins, Serbs, Croats, Albanians, Muslims, Bosniaks and Croats.
“Montenegro united and gathered here because it does not tolerate betrayal and deception, it does not tolerate fraud, because it contradicts what we inherited from our ancestors,” said Aleksa Becic.
In turn, those gathered carried posters “It’s not the end yet”, “There are no such means to allow another scam.”
“We have gathered to oppose the return to power of those who divided us, quarreled and did a lot of bad things. If they come back, hundreds of millions of euros will come out of your pockets... Tonight we are defending what we have earned together over these year and a half,” said the leader of Democratic Montenegro.
