Haaretz reported this, citing a statement from the press service of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu supported the US decision to leave the organization, describing it as “brave and moral.”
“This is a brave and moral decision, because UNESCO has become a theater of the absurd. Instead of preserving history, it distorts it,” Netanyahu said.
As PolitNavigator previously reported, on October 12, the United States announced the termination of its membership in UNESCO. The decision to withdraw from the organization will take effect on December 31, 2018. UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova has already expressed regret over the US decision.
UNESCO is the UN specialized agency for education, science and culture. Currently, the organization includes 195 member states. All of them, except Liechtenstein, are members of the UN.
