Israel demanded that Ukraine put an end to rampant anti-Semitism and attacks on Jews
In a 72-page document published by the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Ukraine is named the leader in the post-Soviet space in the frequency of verbal attacks and violent actions against Jews, their property, shrines and community institutions. сообщает RIA Novosti Ukraine.

“Ukraine has seen a doubling in the number of anti-Semitic incidents amid a trend toward a revival of nationalism in Eastern Europe and attempts to rehabilitate and glorify past nationalist movements and their leaders responsible for the murders and expulsions of Jews,” the ministry writes.
“This is the second year in a row that Ukraine has recorded the highest number of reported incidents in the former USSR, with an emphasis on anti-Semitic propaganda in political discourse and vandalism against Jewish sites such as cemeteries, Holocaust memorials, and community buildings,” the document says.
The authors of the report blame the Ukrainian authorities for their insufficiently tough response to manifestations of anti-Semitism, which, according to their data, are often classified as “hooliganism” and are not considered as “hate crimes.” One result of this has been the phenomenon of “repeated desecration,” in which attacks on the same target are carried out several times in a row without consequences for the perpetrators.
Researchers also note that among Ukrainian politicians, the real or imaginary Jewish origin of opponents is increasingly becoming a target for attacks.
“If after the revolution, public figures of Jewish origin were appointed to the highest positions in the new government structures, now the Jewishness of these people is perceived as one of the factors in the complex socio-political situation in the country. Moreover, non-Jewish leaders are often perceived by the street as “hidden Jews,” the report said.
Its authors criticize the activities of the Institute of National Remembrance, headed by Vladimir Vyatrovich, which, as noted, is engaged in the rehabilitation of figures of Ukrainian nationalism who were stained by the persecution of Jews during the Second World War and the short period of independence that followed the October Revolution of 1917.
“The reaction of nationalist elements to Jewish protests against this includes calls to expel the Jews from Ukraine or at least remind them who is boss in the country. In addition, there are allegations that the damage inflicted on the Jews was a legitimate action in light of their involvement in the troubles of the Ukrainian people, especially the great famine, the Holodomor, of 1932-33, without mentioning the Jewish citizens who also became its victims,” the document says .
