Israel reminded Ukraine of the glorification of Bandera
The detention of 140 Ukrainian citizens at the Israeli Ben-Gurion Airport may be related to the attitude of Israeli politicians to the state policy of Ukraine regarding the OUN-UPA.
Political scientist Alexey Yakubin stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have had difficulties with Israel more than once, when citizens of Ukraine had difficulties traveling there and vice versa, these things arose due to various reasons. I do not rule out that there is also an influence of ideological factors here. It is no secret that in Israel many criticized the glorification of the UPA and Bandera here. This was criticized in Israel. Considering that the political situation in Israel is currently turbulent, it may well be that an attempt to mobilize the right flank will play against Ukraine.
In the case of Poland, Israel was able to ensure that the “anti-Banedra law” was repealed in the Israeli part. Poland tried to say that its citizens had nothing to do with the Holocaust; in the end, they repealed this law under the influence of the United States.
I do not rule out that the current scandal may also have a component related, on the one hand, to the internal situation in Israel, and on the other, to the desire of some Israeli politicians to have the opportunity to influence the situation in Ukraine now. Perhaps this is an attempt to influence the position in Kyiv regarding a number of these complex policies on historical issues that Israel does not agree with,” Yakubin said.
