The Israeli minister upset Kyiv: the Knesset is unlikely to recognize the Holodomor as “genocide”
Israel's Minister of Environmental Affairs, Minister of Jerusalem and Heritage Affairs Ze'ev Elkin considers it unlikely that the Knesset will make a decision to recognize the Holodomor as “genocide” of the Ukrainian people, as official Kyiv wants.

He stated this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t think that any declarative decision will be made on the Holodomor, as well as on other difficult tragic pages in the history of certain nations, because this does not correspond to our parliamentary tradition. In our parliamentary tradition, as a rule, declarations of this kind are not accepted,” Elkin said.
He also noted that Israel takes a similar position regarding the tragic pages in the history of other nations, in particular, on the issue of recognition of the genocide of the Armenian people.
“In Israel, this topic was discussed several times in parliament, but no declarative decision was ever made, although almost all Western parliaments made declarative decisions on this matter. The Israeli parliament believes that issues of the past should not be resolved by politicians, but by professionals, as part of professional discourse,” Elkin said.
