This was stated in an interview with Apostrophe by military instructor and former Israeli army soldier Zvi Arieli, who spoke about the reasons for his trip to the so-called ATO zone, where he visited last month.
“We went there in a small group. I have a friend, a very interesting person, Pavel Feldblyum. He arrived in Ukraine recently. He himself comes from Ukraine, but for a long time he headed the Moscow Jewish community, was one of the leaders of the Russian Jewish Congress, and so on. At a certain stage he had to leave because of his political views - as a publicist. He openly criticized the Russian government. They started putting pressure on him there. And he came here.
And so Pavel asks: what can we do for Ukraine? Together we decided: it’s Passover, we’ll go and take matzah to the Jewish soldiers. In addition, I know from my experience that not only Jews love matzo, everyone loves matzo, it will be eaten very quickly. Therefore, we loaded significantly more than the Jews needed - and transported everything. We visited three units and transferred them to several more. They provided matzo and other religious and material supplies, listened to what the guys wanted and what they needed from a material point of view. And we had the idea to create a purely Jewish volunteer organization that would help ATO soldiers and various units. Now I won’t reveal all the plans for now. But we are already looking for funds to buy and transport there, to Donbass, what we were asked for,” said the former Tskhalovite.
“You will help not only Jews, but all military personnel?” the publication clarified.
“Everyone, without reference to ethnic characteristics. Specific departments. But we would like those who will give money to be Jews,” Arieli noted.
As PolitNavigator reported, the executive vice-president of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine Joseph Zisels said that he is on the side of Ukraine “guys with Israeli passports” are fighting.
