This can be a very complex operation, which is easy to start, but will be very difficult to finish,” Lyamin told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He compares the upcoming battles with the SVO.
“Here you can remember the Northern Military District and the battles for Mariupol. In this case, the battlefield is very, very complex. In the Gaza Strip there are underground tunnels that the Palestinians dug over many years of confrontation. If Israel has dominance in the skies, then the Palestinians have been digging underground tunnels all these years, including to assemble the same missiles that they are now launching at Israel,” the expert says.
According to him, there is a “very high” probability that another long-time enemy of Israel, the Lebanese Hezbollah, will join the conflict.
“It has much more weapons than the Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip. Iran at one time transferred operational-tactical missiles and guided missiles to Hezbollah, which covered almost the entire territory of Israel. And there can be quite a lot of them. That is, these are not the low-precision unguided rockets that Palestinian groups are now launching. There are also coastal anti-ship systems and much more,” the analyst points out.
At the same time, he believes that Iran will not interfere directly.
“It is believed that this is an Arab conflict, so Iran will try to play the role of a helper, provide supplies, help in any way possible, but not directly fight. Because Arabs live on this land, not Persians. But again, it is quite possible that there may be Iranian advisers in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip,” Lyamin does not rule out the possibility.
