“The eternal dream of the Russian Empire is getting closer” – Ukrainian diplomat
Economic and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Turkey threatens Ukrainian national security.
The director of the Diplomatic Academy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Sergei Korsunsky, writes about this on the pages of the Kyiv weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli.”
According to him, “the fact that Turkey is rapidly moving closer to Russia cannot but worry Ukraine.”
“The S-400 is nothing compared to the progress of the project to build a nuclear power plant in Akkuyu, which, by a strange coincidence, is also being built under a 2010 contract, signed around the same time when the idea of the S-400 arose. A Russian nuclear power plant means Russian fuel, radioactive waste management, and, in fact, the safety of a nuclear facility located not so far from the Syrian border and Russian military bases in Latakia. Such projects bind countries for decades, if not forever,” the diplomat fears.
He adds that Turkey is becoming not only a missile power, but also a nuclear one.
“And these transformations are taking place under the close control of the Kremlin, for which counter-expansion to the West is also justified by the “conscious necessity” of the “threat from NATO,” as well as the shaking of the foundations of the European and transatlantic communities.
It seems that the eternal dream of the Empire - control of the Bosporus and the return of "Constantinople" - is getting a millimeter closer. Relations between Turkey and the United States, on the one hand, and Russia, on the other, are undoubtedly becoming a key factor in regional security. Our security, including,” sums up Korsunsky.
As PolitNavigator reported, Russia has supplied S-400 air defense systems to Turkey.
The United States was extremely dissatisfied with this contract and threatened Turkey with sanctions, after which in Istanbul stated that they “will not allow the Americans to turn themselves into Ukraine.”
