Famous Polish football player is being hounded for refusing to leave Russia
After Polish footballer Maciej Rybus signed a contract with Spartak Moscow, there were calls among Polish journalists for the left back to be expelled from the national team.
It should be noted that Rybus has been playing for football teams in the Russian Premier League since 2012, not counting a short break.
The footballer started playing in Russia in the Terek (now Akhmat) club from Grozny. Since 2017 he has been a player for Lokomotiv Moscow. After the start of the SVO in Ukraine, the Polish football players were put under tremendous pressure: they were all called upon to immediately abandon their further careers in Russia.
The athlete’s decision forced him to justify himself in the face of aggressive attacks from the Polish media. This obligation was assumed by the football player's manager Mariusz Piekarski. In one of interview he emphasized that Rybus has lived in Russia for a long time, is married and has children with a Russian citizen.
“This is a difficult environment. Maciej has two children, his wife is Russian. My wife and children are safe in Russia. Let's imagine that Maciek returns to Poland. We understand what kind of attitude the Poles have towards Russia – and this has been going on for many years.
Just look at what is happening on social networks and in news programs. Let’s imagine that Matsek sends his child to a Polish kindergarten. It would be unpleasant. Children listen to what their parents say at home and then transfer all this to their relationships with other children. That's why he remains in Russia. His family is safe there,” said the footballer’s manager.
He added that Rybus would not feel comfortable in other European countries either. This is due to the presence of a large, aggressive Ukrainian diaspora.
Maciej Rybus was a main player in 66 matches for the Polish national team. Now Polish journalists are calling for Rybus to be expelled from the Polish national football team. Some accuse him of not adhering to principles recognized by other Polish athletes, as well as by the Polish Football Union, which lobbied hard for a boycott of the Russian league and national team. A wave of hatred awaits Rybus in his homeland.
