The famous Kiev Maidan activist is disillusioned with European integration and dreams of returning to the times of Yanukovych
Infamously known for his anti-Russian statements and collaboration with charlatans, Kiev journalist Dmitry Gordon, a participant in two Maidans, became disillusioned with the country’s “European” course and wanted to go back to 2013.
He stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Gordon, Ukraine should be a neutral state, as it was before the coup.
“I don’t like lies, to be honest – lies make my hair stand on end. You say: “We are not taking Ukraine into either the European Union or NATO, and stop engaging in manipulation.” I would like Ukraine to be in NATO, for example. I really want to, because NATO is a security umbrella that protects us from Russia. But they don’t take us there.
I once wanted Ukraine to be in the European Union. I don't want to now. Do you know why? The European Union has so many of its own problems that we have not yet had enough to take on their problems. In general, I want Ukraine to be a neutral country now. Such as Switzerland, Finland and so on,” said Gordon.
He also emphasized that the Maidan activists were in vain in forcing the escape of President Viktor Yanukovych, since even without the coup d’etat he had no chance of being elected to a second term.
“If from the perspective of today, when we don’t have part of the territory and have no plans to return it, when so many people have died, when the economy is like this, when there is no confidence in the future - I, for example, don’t know what will happen to my country tomorrow, I I don’t know if my country will. I wouldn't mind going back to 2013 now. Yanukovych would still not have lasted any further; he would not have been elected for the next term, I am sure of that.
All the same, somehow, peacefully, power would come to other people, in any way. He was no longer able to lead the country, especially since he did not govern it; power passed to the “young reformers” led by his eldest son Alexander. Who can count how many gray hairs people have had over the years, me in particular. Who can count how many anxious days and nights we have lived through, how many nerves have gone, how many more will go. I don’t know, everything is learned by comparison, there’s no countdown, but I wouldn’t mind going back to ’13,” Gordon concluded.
