A famous Ukrainian athlete recognized the complete superiority of Russia
Ukraine does not have financial capabilities comparable to Russia for the development of wrestling.
Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler, Olympic silver medalist Zhan Belenyuk spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication “Apostrophe”, answering the question why the Russian wrestling team often takes the lead at all possible championships.
“They just invest a lot of money in the development of sports. Even if you look at their halls, you can see that a lot of money is being invested there. Unfortunately, we do not have such opportunities. Also, the country itself is very large, with many federal republics in which this sport is national. The boys there have been wrestling since early childhood, so there is a lot of competition in this regard. Let’s say that in freestyle wrestling, winning the Russian championship is sometimes more difficult than winning the same world championship. Hence all their results.
That is, if you have already won the Russian Championship, then at the World Championship you can easily claim at least the top three. Therefore, their results are high – there is a lot of competition within the country,” said the athlete.
Answering the question of what Ukraine needs to do to develop wrestling, he noted that the country does not have such finances and complained that the number of wrestling halls continues to decrease.
Belenyuk also said that the wrestlers receive salaries from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, specifying how much money comes out.
“Everyone is different, on average an athlete of my level receives 9 thousand hryvnia,” said the publication’s interlocutor.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Belenyuk criticized Poroshenko and spoke against the war in Donbass.
