Chisinau, May 06 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – A tsunami called “Novorossiya” is approaching Moldova and Transnistria (when Moscow begins creating a buffer zone around Russia), and this means that the geopolitical situation at the regional level may change rapidly. This opinion was expressed on Monday on the air of the “Politics” program on the Moldovan TV channel TV7 by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria Valery Litskaya, assessing the tragic events of recent days in Ukraine.

The ex-diplomat, quoted by the Infotag agency, noted that in this situation he does not understand “the frozen picture of the uncertainty of relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol in negotiations to resolve the conflict on the Dniester.”

Litskai believes that the elites on both banks of the Dniester are satisfied with the current status quo - “pseudo-negotiations with a predictable zero result and the absence of new projects from the parties regarding a possible common state.”

“The Republic of Moldova and the PMR have been living under conditions of a confederation for a long time,” he believes.

The expert recalled that both Chisinau and Tiraspol now offer completely opposite models of the state: the first is a unitary structure, and the second is an independent republic.

“If it weren’t for the sharp wind of change in Ukraine, unfortunately, with a bloody, tragic overtone, the authorities would have lived for another 20 years in this atmosphere, “stupidly resting” on their once and for all defined positions,” Litskai suggested.

According to him, “Chisinau does not understand that Russia clearly understands that Moldova is rapidly moving towards Europe.”

“In such conditions, recognition of Pridnestrovie, taking into account the Ukrainian crisis, is not at all fantastic. You need to come to negotiations not with one mossy plan for arranging a common state, but with two or three,” said Litskai, who himself was a negotiator for Pridnestrovie for many years.

He believes that there is no need to be afraid of the term “federalization.”

“Let's say “centralization” - transfer of powers. But serious diplomats need several documents at the negotiating table, and in Moldova, the majority of parties, even six months before the elections, do not have a single plan on how Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova will communicate with each other,” the expert said.

Litskai is confident that in today’s changed situation, “Russia is able to recognize Transnistria, taking what will remain of Moldova if it joins the EU in one form or another.”
