“They didn’t listen to us, now get it” - the Russian Foreign Ministry threatened the EU with a response
Introduced by the EU anti-Russian sanctions due to the poisoning of blogger Alexei Navalny are baseless and absurd and will not remain without a proper reaction from Moscow.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Over the past XNUMX hours, the European Union has produced a whole series of sanctions decisions against Russian citizens and legal entities. In addition to previously announced steps in connection with the so-called attempted poisoning of Navalny, restrictions were announced for alleged involvement in destabilizing the situation in Libya, including violation of the UN arms embargo on that country.
The explanations given by the European Union as justification for these decisions not only do not stand up to criticism, but are on the verge of absurdity. Naturally, there is no talk of any real evidence. We consider the EU’s attempts to use the authority of the UN to cover up its unseemly political goals to be absolutely unacceptable,” Zakharova said.
She emphasized that Europe did not listen to Moscow’s warnings, and now Russia is forced to adequately respond to the sanctions adopted.
“We have repeatedly warned our colleagues in Brussels and other European capitals that the European Union’s obsessive desire to place responsibility for the situation with Navalny on the Russian side will become a “litmus test” for our future relations with the EU. We regret to note that our words were not heeded. These steps will not go unnoticed by our due response.
Once again we call on the European Union to return to the international legal field, stop dividing states into “worthy” and “unworthy” of the status of a geopolitical partner, and make a choice in favor of stable and progressive interaction rather than aggravating confrontation for opportunistic purposes,” the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded .
