This was reported by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovskaya.
“I receive complaints about human rights violations, including in pre-trial detention centers and the penitentiary system, every day. And their number is not decreasing. On average, this is about 10-15 requests per day throughout Ukraine,” said Lutkovskaya.
She also noted that today the situation in pre-trial detention centers has not improved in any way.
“I cannot say that today there has been huge progress in the conditions of detention in the pre-trial detention center, if only because some of the pre-trial detention centers were built far before the independence of Ukraine and even before the formation of the Soviet Union, so it is understandable that it is necessary to bring up the conditions It's quite difficult there by today's standards. In addition, there are other problems - the attitude of the administration towards those held in the pre-trial detention center. Big problems also arise,” said the ombudsman.
