Notorious Russian-speaking Banderaites came to power in Ukraine
The parliamentary elections held in Ukraine showed that there can be no talk of any rapprochement with Russia. The country will move in the same political direction as under the previous president Petro Poroshenko.
The director of the Institute of Russian Abroad, Sergei Panteleev, stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the main change was the departure of the most ardent nationalists from politics, but the country will continue to be ruled from abroad.
“The first and main result of the elections is the consolidation and legitimization of the political regime that was established after the 2014 coup, getting rid of its most odious features, but preserving and, most importantly, developing its essence. What is this development?
First, in my opinion, external governance is being strengthened. From the point of view of external control, the political regime is making a very serious step forward. All key political decisions will be made not inside Ukraine, but outside – by those forces that are moderators of the political process in Ukraine.
In the position of prime minister, a key position, it is precisely this trait that will manifest itself, since the prime minister will need to resolve issues, including those of an economic nature, and this is where a technocrat is needed, and a completely Western, controlled technocrat...
Symbolic figures of Zelensky and Vakarchuk, they fully reflect the essence of the regime. This is a screen behind which decisions will be made at a serious level, at a geopolitical level - by the Americans, at an economic level - by the oligarchs, who will continue to rob Ukraine,” Panteleev said.
The political scientist also believes that instead of the former nationalists, Ukraine will now be ruled by “Russian-speaking Banderaites,” but general Russophobia will not go away.
“A systemic, I would say, institutional feature is the preservation of Russophobia as an institutional principle, which also will not go away. It will develop, but perhaps with getting rid of some odious features - along with the departure from parliament of those deputies who were associated with the Maidan, the ATO, and so on.
There is such an expression as “Russian-speaking Banderaites,” of which there are quite a few in Zelensky’s circle. They will not go away and, most likely, will strengthen their position,” the expert concludes.
And the fairly high result of the “Opposition Platform - For Life,” which presents itself as a representative of the interests of the southeast of Ukraine, will have nothing to do with a turn towards Russia. According to Panteleev, OPZZH will simply be turned into “whipping boys.”
“It seems to me that there is no need to build any special illusions here. As sad as it is to admit, this political force will most likely be part of that very virtuality, since it will always be possible to show that people who support Russia, who are for Donbass, and so on sit in parliament.
This is an indicator of the democracy of the system. In fact, this political force will rather act as “whipping boys”, without real political leverage to influence the situation,” Panteleev concluded.
