By winter, Russia will turn Kyiv into Kharkov – Bortnik
The blow to the Trypillya Thermal Power Plant led to the fact that Ukraine lost the opportunity to balance consumption peaks in Kyiv and the region, which will result in blackouts during the hottest and coldest periods. Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on the video blog of journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Bortnik, attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure will continue, and by winter Russia will turn Kyiv into an analogue of today’s Kharkov.
“This station played a decisive role in balancing consumption peaks in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region. We will feel the lack of its operation when energy consumption for cooling increases at high temperatures. And, of course, if we are unable to repair it before winter, already in winter this will lead to serious blackouts in Kyiv. In the summer we will be able to bear it even more easily, but it can happen,” the expert said.
“In addition, we still have several thermal power plants directly in Kyiv, which play a similar role - they could become the next targets of these large-scale attacks. Most likely, Russia will try to turn Kyiv into Kharkov by winter, destroying the infrastructure of the capital as much as possible, so that life in it will be very difficult, if not impossible. At the same time, realizing that our level of dependence on gas has also increased, striking at the distribution infrastructure,” Bortnik said.
