Kadre Klimkina refused her position with Zelensky
Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Lana Zerkal, who was appointed yesterday by decree of President Vladimir Zelensky to the post of deputy head of his administration, refused this position, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The official explained her refusal from a position in the presidential administration by saying that career decisions should not run counter to one’s own values and principles.
“First of all, my position and role in the diplomatic service have not changed - Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration. I really love what I did, am doing and, I hope, will continue to do,” Zerkal wrote on Facebook.
“Positions are important in the context of achieving goals; my goal is to promote and protect the interests of Ukraine. And career decisions should not go against one’s own values and principles. Therefore, after the inauguration, preparation and holding of 19 bilateral meetings of the President, I continue to implement certain tasks and plans in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have many challenges, things to do and ideas that need to be dealt with every day,” the diplomat added.
She emphasized that she is committed to “interaction, constructiveness and mutual respect” with the team of the new president.
“The next important item on my calendar is May 25, Hamburg. The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea will announce a decision on our warships and our sailors, who must be returned home (home - ed.). And from the very beginning of June there were two-week hearings in The Hague,” she noted.
Earlier, information appeared in the media that before his resignation, Klimkin recommended Zelensky as the new head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Zerkal or Ukraine’s representative to NATO Vadim Prystaiko.
