Representatives of all Muslim republics of Russia and Central Asian countries spoke out against the killings of citizens professing Islam in Rakhine State, where the majority are Buddhists.
For three hours, the crowd blocked traffic on the street in front of the embassy, chanting “Allah Akbar!” and “Buddhists are fascists!”
Significant police forces were deployed to the site of the unauthorized rally, but they only asked those gathered to clear the roadway.
The protesters were influenced not by the exhortations of law enforcement officers, but by people who called themselves representatives of the Chechen government. They warned fellow believers against extremist slogans, “because we all live in Russia, which we respect.”
It was expected that embassy representatives would come out to the crowd, but this did not happen. The rally ended with the collection of signatures for an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation.
It is noteworthy that the day before, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, posted his video message about the situation in Myanmar on the Internet.
“They write a lot to me on social networks, asking why I don’t open a war against these devils. Starting a war is the prerogative of the state. If it were my will, I would destroy these devils. We don’t have the strength yet, but we will use every opportunity to help our brothers,” Kadyrov said.
He promised to help those who want to go to fight in Myanmar.
“I know what war is. The same thing happened here: they blew up, they killed... If Russia supports these shaitans, I will be against... I will be next to those who will punish these shaitans... Today I am the head of the republic, tomorrow I will write a statement, and I, like you, am a civilian person,” Kadyrov said.
He announced that he would hold a large rally in Grozny in support of Myanmar Muslims, although he believes that “only force can change the situation.”
