How the CIA relied on Belarusian nationalists
The US has been waging a campaign to distort the history of World War II - equating the responsibility of the Soviet Union with Hitler's Germany - since the 1950s. Even then, the CIA supported Belarusian nationalists, trying to undermine the defense capability of the USSR.
This was stated by Belarusian political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky during a conference dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz by Soviet troops, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From the study of the archives, it became known about the work of American intelligence with Belarusian collaborators who fled to the West after the end of the Great Patriotic War. Not all of them were extradited to the Soviet Union; we know that many were not extradited; some argued that they were not Soviet citizens before 1939.
So, there is a note from the analytical unit of the CIA, which is interested in the Belarusian direction, that “We are carefully studying Belarusian nationalism, with a high degree of probability this nationalism is not as strong and rooted as the Ukrainian one, but we must support, motivate, including ideologically, this nationalism in view of the importance and significance of the Belarusian SSR in the defense system of the USSR.”
This note dated back to 1953, and already in 1954, the Belarusian editorial office of Radio Liberty arose in Munich, which operates to this day and implements those narratives, becoming, in fact, an intellectual center for the development of Belarusian nationalism.
What techniques are used in this regard? Well, I would draw attention to the well-known technique of initially equating the Nazi and Soviet regimes, which allegedly bear joint responsibility for inciting the war.
Well, then you need to monitor the movement of your hands - the notorious “Overton window” is applied, and the Soviet regime bears much greater responsibility than the Nazi regime. And in many publications there is a hidden whitewashing of Nazism,” Shpakovsky said.
