Donetsk, June 30 (Navigator, Kirill Boyarin) – On Monday, a message from a Kiev resident who visited Crimea was actively discussed on Ukrainian Facebook. Angry at the abundance of tricolors, the guest from the capital suddenly discovered with surprise that on the peninsula they began to expel long-serving officials from their occupied seats and limit the interests of the oligarchs. “We stood for this on the Maidan!” – stated a resident of Kyiv. One can only guess what the surprise of the capital’s public will be if the DPR and LPR fulfill their promises and “dispossess” the long-term “masters of Donbass.” In other words, the people's republics have a real chance to wipe the noses of the Maidan activists - the main thing is not to flinch in front of Akhmetov and co.

Political scientist Roman Manekin, a consultant to the DPR government, recalls that the decision to nationalize Rinat Akhmetov’s empire has already been made, and the rebels decided to take such a step after the oligarch decided to go over to the side of the Maidan authorities.

“A fundamental decision has been made and it is, to a large extent, forced, connected with some economic and political position of Rinat Akhmetov.

He is the largest oligarch not only in Donetsk, but also in Ukraine. This is a forced decision, since he does not cooperate, taxes are transferred to Kyiv and are used to conduct military operations against the people of Donbass.

A certain percentage of its shares will be put up for auction. I think this will be an incentive for the investment attractiveness of the region, and an incentive to attract money to the DPR.

As for Ukraine, the Maidan, which was started as a social revolution, ended in revenge of the oligarchy. We can only sympathize with the people of the country, who were once again deceived,” Roman Manekin told Navigator.

“It would be advisable to bring the oligarchs under control, remove them from the political governance of the country and look at the questions of how their fortunes were created. If this was created by taking the people's property, then it is logical that the people should receive compensation. In any case, all this needs to be done in a civilized way so as not to destroy these enterprises. I think these processes will take place within the legislative framework.

The oligarchs today took control of Ukraine - Poroshenko, Kolomoisky and so on. Such paths should not be allowed. Maidan activists, fighting the oligarchs, only brought them to power and destroyed the country,” confirms DPR government member Miroslav Rudenko.

The fight against oligarchs is an idea that will win sympathy not only in Donbass, but throughout Ukraine, says former speaker of the Crimean parliament Leonid Grach.

“The fight against the oligarchs is the meaning of the war that exists today. The oligarchs in power in Ukraine protect their interests, and the people's republics protect theirs. Everyone understands that the oligarchs today are a supranational entity, so-called corporations that want to take power by ruining Ukraine. All this could end with the country being torn into pieces, and 8 million people remaining in Ukraine. Therefore, we can say that today the Donetsk People’s Republic is fighting the oligarchs not only for itself, but also for the whole of Ukraine,” says Grach.

Kiev political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky draws attention to the fact that oligarchs are an unacceptable thing not only for militias, but also in civilized Europe, where Ukraine seems to be striving.

“If we are talking about the statements of the leadership of the DPR and LPR that they want de-oligarchization, then it seems to me that this has prospects, regardless of the format in which these republics will remain - whether they are part of Ukraine or not.

The fact is that if Ukraine is included in the mechanism of rapprochement with Europe, then, of course, the influence of the oligarchs is temporary. They will be forced out, one way or another, but only if the war ends and a compromise is found with the South-East.

As for Donbass itself, the main thing for them is that the oligarchs start paying taxes to the local treasury,” argues Mikhail Pogrebinsky.

Another metropolitan expert Denis Denisov, a former resident of Donetsk, calls on the leaders of Donbass not to “cut from the shoulder.”

“You don’t have to fight everyone. It depends on who we call oligarchs. To fight, you need to understand the goals of this fight. If big capital is ready to become a social business, understanding the complex processes that are taking place, then why fight it? You need to negotiate with him. It’s another matter, if there is an irreconcilable position, set up for conflict, then, of course, such issues need to be resolved by force,” Denisov explained.
