“We need to provide people with the opportunity to study their native language: Mari, Tatar Chechen, Yakut. We, thank God, have a huge variety of languages. This is our pride and wealth. This must be supported,” Putin said.
Let us recall that the education law recently adopted in Ukraine caused an international scandal in Europe because it prohibited the study of minority languages in schools.
At the same time, Putin advocated compulsory learning of the Russian language for all children in the country, which would provide them with equal opportunities.
“We have no urgency in the area of the national issue. The language issue is aimed at only one thing - to create equal starting opportunities for all children, no matter where they live, for their future life. If children know their national language and lag behind in the language of interethnic communication - teaching in the country’s leading universities is conducted in Russian, this would be bad for children,” Putin said.
