On the anniversary of the Debaltsevo operation, having just commemorated the anniversary of the capture of Donetsk airport, I don’t want official celebrations. I would like to remember my own with difficulty, sometimes even tearfully. Those who fought nearby. Or he simply did not want to leave his land and remained under a hail of shells, in spite of the enemy.

In those days, the author had a chance to find out what a war correspondent is. These are not those who are released for 15 minutes to “graze” on a pre-prepared site. Not those who write based on materials from social networks. These are people who fight in positions with weapons in their hands; they kill and risk being killed themselves, and sometimes they also send materials to the editor. So that everyone knows the truth.

The department of war correspondents of the 1st Army Corps of the DPR did not leave its positions in 2014-2015. Donetsk airport, Nikishino, Fashchevka, Gorlovka, Yasinovataya - we were everywhere, and we were never afraid of the front line.

Now, on the anniversary of Debaltsevo, we remember many, but most of all our colleague, militia soldier and military commander Seva Petrovsky. He died near Logvinovo, in one of the “hottest” places in the Debaltsevo cauldron.

Vsevolod was the commander of a machine gun company - he commanded the people himself. The task was not easy - to recapture the village from the enemy; gain a foothold in positions. Alas, it all ended in disaster. While the fighters were trying to reach positions in the snow, enemy reconnaissance discovered their movement.

They walked, kneading porridge from snow, ice and water. On the way to the positions they were ambushed. Two dozen people were mowed down in a minute and a half. Seva survived. Although he was wounded, he crawled to pull out his own - the wounded. There he was overtaken by a burst of PKM fire.

He was wounded twice - in the arm and in the face. Nevertheless, he tried to save his comrade. Alas, it ended badly. Another enemy burst ended his life.

I don't want to write about this. I've lost too many. Seva Petrovsky, Vagid Efendiev, Afanasy Kosse. But for the sake of the bright memory of them, stepping over personal experiences, I feel my duty to convey everything that I know, saw and felt in those days, minutes and seconds.

We remember not only “Seva”, but also other military officers of the 1st Army Corps of the DPR who died in the line of duty. We remember “Ellin”, “Vagid”, and other guys we lost in that terrible winter.

“Ellin” and “Vagid” died under heavy fire from 120 mortars at the Donetsk airport, near the village. Fun. Their bodies were forced to be identified by their fellow military officers. Alas, the losses did not stop there.

I wanted to write a lot about “Sev” Petrovsky, but too many names are knocking in my memory. And there is no strength not to give them the last honor, as brothers in arms and colleagues. Everlasting memory.
