“How to put Akhmetov in his place?” – bewilderment of the SBU general
The law on oligarchs, which the Ukrainian authorities are going to adopt, will not help bring the oligarchs under control, but will be another PR stunt with no real effect.
Vasily Vovk, Major General of the SBU, stated this on the NASH TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They say that it is necessary for oligarchies to exist within the framework of the law. Are they now outside the law? Of course, they are outside the scope of the law - they do not all pay taxes, not in full. And other payments. And there is no need to fight the oligarchs, we need to decide - if the oligarch works outside the framework of the law, then there is no need to pass a law about oligarchs, we need to put the oligarch in prison. That's all.
If this law is passed, it will be another law that will be put on the shelf. It can only be used on some broadcasts on TV channels, indicating that we have finally put the oligarchs in their place. I would like to ask: how can Mr. Akhmetov be put in his place? As an oligarch or as someone who owns a line of credit? This is billions of dollars, 60% of this line of credit is US money. Do you understand what we are talking about if you are really going to fight Akhmetov as an oligarch?
There was talk that we will have registers, they say that the NASC will deal with this. In Belarus, which we criticize, there is a register of persons involved in terrorist activities. And how do we impose sanctions against her, how do we talk about a dictator? What kind of registry is this? Who defined it? NAZK? Who is NAZK?” said Vovk.
