“Like they serve fish with beer”: Vakarchuk risks losing his mandate because of the concert in Minsk
The scandal that erupted in Ukraine after the news that newly minted politician Svyatoslav Vakarchuk decided to go to Minsk the old fashioned way and play at a corporate party there, may cause the musician to be deprived of his mandate as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada.
The press service of the group “Okean Elzy” had the imprudence to tell reporters that they refused to name the amount of the fee for the performance, citing commercial secrets.
“The very stupid press service of Okean Elzy called a joint performance with Vakarchuk in Minsk a commercial activity. Not creative, but commercial. And she refused to talk about the amount of the fee for the leader of the political party and the Golos faction.
Which, together with his deputy mandate, is “served like fish with beer” at some corporate events.
I advise the press service to think before writing the word “commercial”. This is interpreted by law as “illegal part-time work.” And it may end in court and loss of mandate,” comments former Minister of Justice Elena Lukash.
“From Monday, you can begin the procedure for taking away the deputy mandate from a narrow-minded person involved, as required by the Constitution and the law. Well, or let him publicly admit that he lied, hiding the circumstances of his call-singing at parties in foreign countries. A good lesson for a stupid singer,” notes lawyer Andrei Portnov.
