How the US governs the Patriarch of Constantinople
The Patriarchate of Constantinople is an instrument of the West to dismember the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow said at the Christmas hearings in the State Duma.
“For several years now, external forces have been using the Patriarchate of Constantinople for their political purposes. Its position is very vulnerable, since its center is located in Turkey, on territory controlled by non-Orthodox authorities, and its main dioceses and sources of income are in the United States and Western Europe.
It is quite obvious that these factors deprive the Patriarchate of Constantinople of freedom, and therefore it is through it that they are trying to split the Russian Orthodox Church today by legalizing a newly created schismatic structure in Ukraine.
Under powerful pressure from these forces, some Primates, as well as hierarchs of a number of Local Orthodox Churches, declared recognition of the schismatics. Here is a very good indicator: if a certain hierarch defends a schism, it means that this person is not free, he is controlled by other forces,” said the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.
He compared Russia to an “island of freedom” under the dictates of the West.
“Russia recently passed laws prohibiting public propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships, as well as pedophilia. What fierce criticism this position of Russia met with! Despite the fact that the law adopted in Russia does not discriminate against anyone, does not limit anyone’s freedom, but only limits the influence of non-traditional sexual practices on our children and youth. Of course, not to the fullest extent, but we had the right to do what we did.
And what is the answer? Accusations of Russia of violating human rights, freedom, and so on. This conversation with our Western partners alone demonstrates what is happening in the world from the point of view of the clash of different values, different ideological concepts. And in a sense, Russia is becoming more and more like an island of freedom, because we defend the values that ensure true freedom,” said Patriarch Kirill.
