This opinion was expressed by political scientist Denis Denisov in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“It must be recognized that sooner or later such a situation had to happen. In 2014, the leaders of the DPR and LPR admitted that Akhmetov’s enterprises continue to pay taxes to Ukraine, but they continue to function because they create tens of thousands of jobs. Now, due to the blockade of Donbass and the shutdown of factories, the situation is changing.
As soon as Akhmetov stops paying salaries to residents of Donetsk and Lugansk, the authorities of the republics will nationalize his enterprises and try to run them on their own. It will be very difficult to do this, but there will be no other choice, since it is also impossible to leave people without work. Naturally, factories will not be cut into metal; most likely, the DPR and LPR will have contracts to supply their products to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and from there to Russia and around the world. And Ukraine, which does not want to compromise with Donbass, can remain alone with the oligarchs and politicians fighting for power,” Denisov emphasized.
