Oligarch Sergei Taruta, who recently resigned from his post as governor of the Donetsk region, stated this on the Inter TV channel.

“We needed to come to an agreement then. We had more opportunities at that time to have better conditions than what we have now,” he said.
At the same time, Taruta stated that Petro Poroshenko fired him because the governor, as a member of the president’s team, demanded coordination of all steps related to the Donetsk region.
It is interesting that at the end of August, before the start of major defeats of the Ukrainian army in Donbass, Taruta’s rhetoric was completely different - he willingly gave interviews where he made plans for the restoration of “liberated” Donetsk.
