“What is the 30th anniversary of independence? Ukraine is 1000 years old” – Yushchenko
Ukraine should not be celebrating the 30th anniversary of independence, but the millennium of its history.
Former President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the former head of state, Ukraine voluntarily threw away hundreds of years of history from its memory.
“This is a big question mark regarding today’s reality - how we have been throwing away millennia, and to be precise, many centuries from our memory and history. “It’s as if the definitions that we use today indicate that we have renounced what happened a thousand years ago, or 500 years, 700 years ago,” the ex-president said.
“We were under Moscow’s yoke for 350 years, then we received Ukrainian statehood in the 20s. Some existed on the territory for more than a year, others, like Skoropadsky’s state, for seven months, Augustin Voloshin’s Ukrainian state for one and a half days, Stepan Andreevich Bandera’s state existed for two days,” Yushchenko said.
