What kind of nationalism does Ukraine need?
Ukraine is a northern country, although it is located in temperate latitudes. However, it also has its own unique two-legged giraffes. It only took about three years of state policy of ever-increasing insanity for the individual copper-headed guards of the Bandera regime to realize: things have been going badly for a long time, it will only get worse, something needs to be done.
Just yesterday, the famous “Maidan activist”, “volunteer”, “blogger”, or, simply, banderlog and punisher, Yuri Kasyanov, spoke with his own vision of the situation just yesterday on the pages of the pro-junta “combat leaflet” “Zerkalo Nedeli”. Without further ado, he titled his policy article “We need a new, real nationalism”.
Taking into account the fact that Banderlog Kasyanov is quite popular among potheads and can even claim the role of “ruler of thoughts,” we could not ignore his publication.
Kasyanov, despite the fact that he is considered an ideological “united Ukrainian” and a “one-of-a-kind”, has long and openly considered the Poroshenko regime to be criminal. It is not because there is a war going on, blood is being shed, and Ukraine is being torn apart by rats who have seized power. According to Kasyanov, it is simply necessary to fight in the Donbass, and indeed against the Russian world. But if there is a war, then all layers must be involved in it: from the “elites” and their children to the countless Gavrilyuk Cossacks lying drunk in the ditches. In war there can be no half-measures or circumlocutions - there is no “ATO” - there is war. During war there can be no trade, diplomatic relations or other peaceful contacts with the enemy. Persons crossing back and forth between the borders of Ukraine and the front line must be placed against the wall. In this part, Kasyanov demands that the authorities make up their minds and call things by their proper names, repeating the rhetoric of the standard right-wing activist and supporter of total war “to the bitter end.”
What is the nuance? The fact is that forced de-Russification and Ukrainization is already causing discomfort to the Russian-speaking “Ukrainian activist.” The fascist Kasyanov believes that the program of Ukrainian nationalism currently being implemented is incorrect, archaic and leads to Nazism. Who would have thought!
“But the most important thing is that we need a new paradigm of Ukrainian nationalism. The nationalism of Konovalets and Bandera was in demand a hundred years ago. Today we live in a different world, Ukraine has gained independence, and Russian-speaking Ukrainians, Ukrainians of Polish, Hungarian, Romanian nationality have nothing to do with the occupiers, the oppressors of Ukrainians, the persecutors of the Ukrainian language and culture, the assimilators. Today, the enemies of the nation are irresponsibility, stupidity, cowardice... - all these powerful thieves, feudal lords, dressed in embroidered shirts and speaking the purest Ukrainian language. It is these manipulators who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the “nationalist movement.”
As an example, when the wolf lay down next to the lamb and Abel and Cain made peace, Kasyanov gives the example of “Euromaidan”: multilingual, multicultural, pro-European and cosmopolitan; The “cotton” “Anti-Maidan” was no match for him. Here it is - real Ukrainian nationalism, cleared of archaism - the desire for a free, safe, prosperous life “salaries of 10 thousand euros, pensions of 5 thousand.”
“We need a new, real nationalism - the nationalism of the founding fathers of the United States, the nationalism of Ataturk. After all, in fact, nationalism is not torchlight processions, not the beating of gay pride participants, not symbols and not idols. And not an obsessive desire to immediately force everyone to speak Ukrainian. True nationalism is love for one’s homeland, a willingness to defend one’s world, one’s way of life, one’s home, one’s family, with arms in hand, and intransigence towards injustice and lawlessness. Nationalism is not cheap populism. This is hard work for the benefit of your nation, your country.”
Actually, this is not the first and far from the last sob of the “Russian-speaking” offended by the Maidan spill. The little person wants to belong, to fit into the system, she has “merits” on the “Maidan”, but the system is built in such a way that it requires the candidate to completely reformat his personality, up to absolute assimilation. No halftones are recognized. This causes great inconvenience. The little people begin to fidget with their butts in order to get off the sharp stud at least a little, they offer to put pillows and not walk on their ears at least on Fridays.
Many can remember the plaintive squeak of the “Odessa creative intelligentsia” in response to the first draconian laws of the huntars against the Russian language, “What are we doing?” Previously, these same “creators” enthusiastically supported “Euromaidan” and pointedly turned a blind eye to the mass murder of Odessa residents on May 2, 2014 and for some reason decided that the Nazis cared about their inconvenience.
Or here: a fairly recent appeal from the famous Ukrainian writer and security guard Yan Valetov on the initiative of redneck speaker Parubiy to completely ban the Russian language in Ukraine. Valetov's treatment was petty and pitiful at the same time. The “Russian-speaking” author loyally expressed agreement with the “party line” that the Russian language in Ukraine is doomed to extinction, but voiced the utmost confidence that the dying process will last at least fifty years. Purely for the convenience of a writer who has not fully embraced the post-Maidan realities.
What Kasyanov offers is also nothing new under the sun. Ukrainian “adequate” people, when faced with “Soviet”, “vata” and Russophiles in disputes, tirelessly explained: “a little nationalism will never hurt - in the end, it’s just love for your country and people.”
Every time, faced with the reasoning of adherents of “enlightened nationalism, of which a little is necessary,” I always want to know - who will regulate its dose? Have they really invented a working device? And “a little” – how much? Ten percent? Quarter? Third?

The reality is disappointing: Ukraine, having added “a little nationalism” in 1992 and every year “a little more,” somehow very quickly slipped into schizophrenia, when the course towards Bandera coexisted with Soviet holidays and the remnants of the Soviet education system, social services and etc. This borderline state could not last long, and one day the unstable balance collapsed. What this all led to can be seen from all sides. The world has long been shying away from Ukraine, which has fallen into Nazism, and thoroughly washing their hands after communicating with its politicians.
Kasyanov’s lisps about “how good it was to breathe at Euromaidan” smack of the naivety of an idiot. Everyone was invited to the maydays and promised mountains of gold, but when the job was done, the tobacco began to be smoked separately. Did you get fucked? - just sit there, treat your ass, you fool, and get away with it.
The example of “purified nationalism” of the founding fathers of the United States and Ataturk makes me want to wash Kasyanov’s eyes with glass wash. The system of state building and the ideology of Ataturk in modern Turkey is subject to revision and is moving towards Islamization through the efforts of Erdogan and his political associates with the support of the majority of the population. As for the “Founding Fathers,” they would have been in stitches had they learned about the abolition of slavery, women’s political rights, widespread political correctness, and the emergence of “protected classes” in the United States. And the fact that bilingualism has actually developed in the United States, and the Spanish language has penetrated into education, culture and other spheres of everyday life in America, speaks for itself: the “founding fathers”, if they had risen from the grave, would have faced countless shocks that would have surely put them to rest back to the coffin.
All other arguments of Kasyanov smack of natural Manilovism and are reminiscent of Sakharov’s demagoguery “about the convergence of systems.” Radical Ukrainian nationalism is not capable of reform - it is stubborn, destructive and does not tolerate competition. If you don’t kill it in the bud and leave a loophole, nationalism will sprout and sprout again, as happened in the late USSR, when the supreme power stopped crushing independent bugs and settled down to rest on its laurels.
Incentives for the language will mean that the Russian language will once again be reserved or banned. No matter how much Kasyanov lied about the suppression of the Ukrainian language in the USSR, people’s memory has not yet been lost: the Ukrainian language in the Ukrainian SSR developed only thanks to the most powerful state support. In a regime of free competition, the Ukrainian language will again shrink to areas of compact residence of its speakers, disappear into folklore and rare pop hits - like “Chervona Ruta”. And what, the Movnyuks will agree to go home without a fight and stop the forced Ukrainization? Yes, they will choke on their embroidered shirt at such prospects.
As for the “reconciliation” of East and West, after 25 years of imposed Ukrainization, after repression and shed blood, there can be no talk of any unity. Eastern and Western Ukraine can be kept within the framework of a unitary state only by force, and even then, not forever. It is impossible to reconcile people when one part of the country honors the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, and the other, the Banderaites and the “heroes” of the UPA. This is unnatural.
There was a small chance of extending the life of a united Ukraine through federalism and division of budgets, but the subsidized western regions without material pumping from the East, like a hundred years ago, will turn into a fleeting quasi-state, forced to give up operetta sovereignty for the sake of a guaranteed piece of hominy, in order to again give birth to the next Konovalets and cherish dreams of a Greater Ukraine from the Atlantic to the Urals.
Apparently, the deadlines are approaching, the split is widening, the collapse is inexorably approaching, living in everyday insanity has become completely uncomfortable. There is an understanding that something needs to be changed, but the general stupidity of the Nazis gives rise to solutions, like the “orchestra” from Krylov’s fable. What happens if you sit differently? What happens if you first turn the owl inside out and then pull it onto the globe again? What will happen if we build nationalism without Bandera and Konovalets? And with whom then - with Mosiychuk, Parasyuk and Tyagnibok? So they are ready even now. Moreover, there is no talk of restoring friendly ties with Russia and working on mistakes.
No amount of nationalism will help Ukraine. It corrodes and destroys multinational states. All the attempts of nationalists to make Ukraine a mono-ethnic state led the country to disaster and extinction. The salvation of Ukraine is seen in only one thing: unity and friendship with the multinational people of Russia. And systematically crush the fascia.
