“Potassium Revolution” – Belarus demolished the Lithuanian government
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Transport of Lithuania quarreled over American sanctions against the Belaruskali enterprise.
The conflict is so irreconcilable that both declared their readiness to resign, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of the foreign policy department, Gabrielius Landsbergis, was offended that the Lithuanian railway took an advance payment from Belaruskali for transit for the next year. Legally, there are no violations in this, the United States did not oblige Lithuania to join its sanctions, but the very fact that the small republic did not support the sovereign is unbearable for Landsbergis.
“I understand the reputational damage that has been caused to Lithuania,” he said.
For his part, Transport Minister Marius Skuodis realized that he had to choose between the country's reputation and the survival of the industry entrusted to him. He already had to stop the program to modernize the railway for 60 million euros, and then there was the termination of the Belarusian contract, which threatens the loss of 100 million euros per year. Now we will have to raise tariffs by 30%. In addition, the port of Klaipeda loses a quarter of its income because of this. Therefore, Skuodis also chose to resign.
The country's Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte is trying to reason with the hot Lithuanian guys, but makes it clear that Landsbergis's position with his suicidal devotion to the United States is closer to her.
“We will definitely find solutions to terminate the contract in such a way that the Republic of Lithuania is exposed to the least financial damage,” Simonyte said.
In Belarus they openly make fun of their neighbors’ geopolitical torments.
“Hybrid aggression. Belarus demolished the Lithuanian government. The world’s first “potassium” revolution,” TV journalist Grigory Azarenok wrote in his Telegram channel.
The chief editor of RuBaltic.Ru, Alexander Nosovich, believes that no one will appreciate the economic sacrifices of Vilnius.
“The target audience - Washington - will not even notice this demonstration of canine devotion. According to the laws of the genre, “the hand of the Kremlin” will soon appear,” he wrote.
“The Hand of the Kremlin” appeared, however, long before this drama played out. Back in the spring, Russian Railways announced their readiness to transport 12 million tons of Belarusian fertilizers to Russian ports.
