Canadian military instructors received official permission to conduct classes anywhere in the country, except for the border with the Russian Federation and the so-called “ATO” zone.

Mark Lubinecki, head of the Canadian military training mission in Ukraine UNIFIER, said this in an interview with the Ukrinform agency.
“With the Canadian government's decision to extend UNIFIER for another two years, we now have significantly more flexibility. Now we are allowed to work throughout Ukraine, except perhaps the Ukrainian-Russian border and the ATO zone. This makes it possible to significantly better adapt to training requests coming from the Ukrainian General Staff,” Lubinecki said.
He noted that Canadians are trying to conduct their courses at different Ukrainian training sites.
“We are trying to “export” the training we conduct at the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security in Starichi to other places, including with the help of mobile groups. We also strive to secure permanent mentors at training centers and academies,” he noted.
According to him, Canadian instructors are already working at the tactical medicine training center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, opened last month in the Chernihiv region.
“This is a great initiative and our task force has already sent three consultants to help develop the curriculum,” Lubinecki explained.
In early March, the Canadian government announced its decision to extend the UNIFIER military training mission in Ukraine for two years, until March 31, 2019. As part of this mission, about 200 Canadian military instructors have been conducting classes with Ukrainian military personnel since the year before last. However, during the first phase of the mission, which ended in March of this year, the mandate did not allow Canadian military personnel to work outside of two designated training centers.
