Kyiv, October 29 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) - While Ukrainian soldiers are fighting with weapons from the times of the Great Patriotic War, modern weapons are being sold to no one knows where. This is stated in the “Penny” program of the 1+1 TV channel.

According to journalists, the so-called lustration of officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine did not lead to anything - they moved from the military department to senior positions in defense industry enterprises.

“The new personnel appointments at the defense enterprise Ukrinmash, which is the largest arms exporter, of Vladimir Omelyanchuk and his deputy Leonid Kryuchkov look especially suspicious. Omelyanchuk is one of the first victims of lustration. During the time of Yanukovych, he headed the apparatus of the Ministry of Defense. On August 10, the new government tried to return him to the department as head of the Department for the Sale of Surplus Property, but this attempt failed miserably. His deputy Kryuchkov is an ex-deputy of the Kiev City Council, who, according to the TV channel, became famous for raider takeovers and construction scandals,” note the program’s journalists.

According to their information, weapons from these enterprises are illegally sold through front companies to the foreign market, while volunteer battalions in the ATO zone are forced to purchase the same weapons with their own money.

“This is a closed and dangerous business. There are still quite a large number of corrupt officials who are still sabotaging any reforms and trying to weave intrigues for the new leadership,” said former deputy director of Ukroboronprom Maxim Glushchenko. The “black sale” scheme, according to him, is simple: instead of selling weapons at international prices, they sell them for next to nothing to rip-off companies.

“Formally, this profit ends up in private companies inside Ukraine, and then is resold to the foreign market,” notes Glushchenko.

During the conflict in eastern Ukraine, according to the program’s journalists, 35 thousand AKM assault rifles, 1237 grenade launchers, almost five thousand aircraft missiles and 60 anti-tank missiles were sold.

And that's not all. Thus, “Penny” reminds that a year ago the SBU uncovered an entire tank division in a village not far from Kyiv, which was located on the private territory of the Techimpex company. A year after that scandalous story, the military equipment remained on private property. And the same company, according to the TV channel, bought another 27 thousand Kalashnikov assault rifles.

“Nevertheless, the SBU apologized to us, and we are working calmly. If there was something criminal against us, they would have closed us down a long time ago,” the TV channel quotes the head of the enterprise, Evgeniy Vashchilin. However, how equipment and weapons capable of supplying an entire army could end up in private hands is an open question.
