Kuchma’s son-in-law’s channel shows “the horrors of occupied Crimea”
Kyiv, January 21 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) - Crimean Tatars are suffering in Crimea - searches are being carried out in people’s homes, and those who do not recognize Russian authorities are missing. Such “horrors of the occupied peninsula” are demonstrated to its viewers by the Ukrainian television channel ICTV of oligarch Viktor Pinchuk, son-in-law of ex-president Leonid Kuchma.
“Tapping of phones, disappearances of people, mass searches. In less than a year of Russian occupation, Crimea fully felt what the Russian world was like along with the brutal Soviet era. Speaking out loud about your pro-Ukrainian views in Crimea is extremely dangerous,” ICTV fears.
According to the TV channel, the number of missing Crimean Tatars in Crimea has exceeded two dozen.

“They break down the door and 3-4 machine gunners burst in, and they try to go through all the rooms at once. There, a search warrant was issued to search for drugs, weapons and prohibited literature. These actions are aimed at scaring the people more,” Mejlis activist Eskender Bariev complains about the Crimean law enforcement officers.
At the same time, it is worth noting that earlier the chairman of the State Committee for Interethnic Relations and Deported Citizens, Zaur Smirnov, told reporters that no one is oppressing the Crimean Tatars on the peninsula, and the searches and arrests were related to criminal cases initiated because of the meeting of the leader of the Mejlis, Mustafa Dzhemilev May 3, 2014 and illegal border crossing.
“The Crimean Tatar language has existed as a state language in Crimea since the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Crimea, and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the rehabilitation of the repressed peoples of Crimea, which implies, of course, the rehabilitation of the Crimean Tatars as the restoration of historical justice. This is precisely the fact that Ukraine ignored for 23 years. The information about the infringement of the rights of the Crimean Tatars does not correspond to reality,” Smirnov assures.
