The German Chancellor called Putin's argument about the genocide of Russians in the Donbass "absurd"
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that he considers Vladimir Putin’s comparison of the situation in Donbass and the former Yugoslavia, where NATO troops were deployed, to be “absurd.”
The German politician stated this at the Munich Security Conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am sure that we did not invite Putin to unleash a crisis on the border with Ukraine. The EU is not aggressive, and Putin is not afraid of the EU, but from our point of view, this is absolutely clear. And when I say this to him, he always remembers the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. There, of course, the EU harmed people who did nothing.
But I said that this was genocide, which we were trying to prevent. And he must see that people in the Western Balkans want to become part of the EU, and they do not share his point of view.
And now he is trying to show us that something similar to genocide is happening in Donbass, although this is an absolutely absurd argument. And it’s important for us to always not be so intensely concerned with what others say,” said Scholz.
