The presidential candidate of the “agrarian superpower” sighs for its industrial past
In Ukraine, there is an acute problem in nuclear energy; local production in all industries has fallen into decline in four years.
Ukrainian presidential candidate, Lvov mayor Andrei Sadovoy stated this in the studio of channel 112, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I want to say that a series of units at the nuclear power plant were shut down in an emergency. On December 1, 2014, an accident occurred at the third unit and it was shut down, on May 2, 2016, an accident occurred at the fourth power unit, and on November 11, 2018, the sixth unit was shut down. How long will this continue, since only the second and fifth power units are working?” asked the viewer.
“Nuclear power generation generates electricity at the lowest price, but there is a problem in which, having Ukrainian uranium, we, according to the Budapest Memorandum, do not have the right to produce fuel rods. In this regard, we bring this uranium to Russia and from there we bring fuel rods. But this is a very big problem, because now the main issue is jobs. It is necessary to give the opportunity to develop local production, and not transport it to other countries for processing,” said Sadovoy.
“My mood immediately deteriorates when they say that Ukraine sells a lot of wheat. We should be famous for the fact that we produce airplanes, because not a single airplane has been produced in 4 years. We are a large industrial country, but there is no longer any production of rockets or naval ships. This requires strategy. Indeed, in the case of the same grain, the Turks buy it from us, grind it, and then bring it here, and we buy this flour,” the candidate added.
