The captain of “Nord” was arrested, but the bail amount allows him to be released
Today's trial in Kherson ended with the selection of a preventive measure in the form of detention for the captain of the ship “Nord” seized by Ukraine, Vladimir Gorbenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Boris Babin, the Kiev-appointed “representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea,” wrote about this on his social network page.
According to Babin, such a decision is a success. At the same time, the Ukrainian official is not entirely satisfied with the bail amount set by the court for the captain - only 35 thousand hryvnia.
“The epic with the selection of a preventive measure for the captain of the Nord is not completed. We can note the successful actions of the SBU Main Directorate in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the State National Security Service, which ensured results, despite the very difficult situation in Kherson and Kyiv. But having chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention, the judge set bail at... 35000 UAH. Everyone understands what will happen next. As for me, the amount of bail is a very clear assessment of the efficiency of the state prosecution,” complains Poroshenko’s appointee.
Anna Sheveleva, a representative of the shipowner's company, confirmed that the captain has the opportunity to be released on bail and his lawyers are already working to ensure that he takes advantage of this opportunity.
“The lawyers will post bail,” Sheveleva said.
A criminal case has been initiated against the captain of the vessel, Vladimir Gorbenko, under Article 332-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the procedure for entry and exit to temporarily occupied territory). He faces up to three years in prison.
After yesterday's court hearing, Gorbenko went to the hospital. He had a cardiogram done and was prescribed several orders, including an ultrasound scan, due to the hypertensive crises he had experienced.
