Karasev: The imperial style of the Russians will not allow asking for water from Kyiv
Moscow will “behind the scenes” push the issue of resuming water supplies to Crimea.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed in a conversation with the Kyiv online publication Apostrophe by Kiev political scientist, director of the Institute of Global Strategies Vadim Karasev.
“Moscow will not publicly ask Kyiv to help with water, so as not to lose face and not show weakness in the eyes of Crimeans. They will continue to pretend that the situation is under control for them. The imperial style of the Russians boils down to making their desires look like initiatives and concessions on the part of Kyiv,” the expert said.
“The Kremlin will continue to push the issue of water for the peninsula behind the scenes. This is also indicated by Kravchuk’s recent statement. I don’t think that the Russians will take any extreme measures now. Besides, summer is coming to an end. The Kremlin is now distracted by other issues: coronavirus, the Navalny story, protests in Khabarovsk, the situation in Belarus. I believe that now the main attention is focused on Minsk,” Karasev summed up.
Let us recall that the former President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk did not rule out resuming water supplies to Crimea if a humanitarian disaster occurs there.
