Karasev wants to establish a “fighting democracy” according to the Israeli scenario
Following the Israeli scenario, Ukraine may well lift martial law and hold presidential elections, despite the fighting and the situation on the fronts.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Israeli channel “Iton TV”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“According to the Constitution, no one has canceled them, there is an electoral constitutional calendar, and secondly, martial law will be lifted, and elections can be held.
Thirdly, what if the conflict goes into a protracted phase of low, medium intensity by the fall of this year? Are there elections in Israel? But the low-intensity Arab-Israeli conflict has been going on for many years. If the situation in Ukraine follows this scenario, then should we abandon democratic procedures and the election of authorities? In general, a fighting democracy,” Karasev said.
According to him, Ukraine may well and should repeat the experience of Israel.
“This is better than a military autocracy like the experience of Egypt or the military dictatorship before the 90s in South Korea or Pakistan, for example. Israel shows how it is possible to combine the interests of national security and the interests of democratic development, especially since Ukraine is oriented toward the EU, which is a community of democratic states. The war is also going on for democratic values,” the political scientist emphasized.
