Karasev: Kyiv will no longer be able to call the Russian Federation an “aggressor” and praise the Maidan
After signing a contract with Gazprom for Russian gas supplies, Ukraine will not be able to accuse the Russian Federation of aggression.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why do direct supplies [of gas from Russia to Ukraine] scare everyone? Because it is beneficial from an economic point of view, but not beneficial from a political point of view, because it returns the situation to 2013. After all, we do not buy directly from the aggressor. And if we buy directly from Gazprom, it is no longer an aggressor. This leads to the normalization of relations with Russia, a detente or a transition from confrontation to some more or less option,” the expert noted.
According to Vadim Karasev, such political myths play an extremely important role in politics. So, after release of five Berkut members, the myth of the “Revolution of Dignity” was destroyed, and now Kyiv will no longer be able to praise the Maidan.
“Coal is coming, fuel rods are coming, but gas is serious, because this is Putin’s geopolitical weapon - pipelines, and so on. This is a fetish, but in politics fetishes play a very important role.
It's like Berkut. Here they are no longer looking at people, but at a fetish: “Berkut”, Maidan. These are serious things because they concern fundamental things - ideology, ideas, legitimacy. Maidan is an ideology. And if we release Berkut, it means that this ideology is collapsing. This means that the Maidan was not a “revolution of dignity,” but a coup, and this is already hitting the political forces that base their ideology on the ideology of the Maidan, on the “revolution of dignity,” the political scientist concluded.
