Karasev: imposing a language will force millions of Ukrainians to look “to the left”
The scandalous law on the Ukrainian language adopted by the Verkhovna Rada is unacceptable for a country like Ukraine and is viable only if the state disintegrates into West and East.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is very risky for the country. Because this is how conflicts began. You know that some states were united by language, and some fell apart when one language was forcibly imposed on them. They fell apart because others didn't want to accept it. There are different practices...
We are a belated nation, we have a belated nation-building, now you cannot build a nation by force. You cannot build a nation through war, but we have shown that we do not want war. We don’t want there to be a war, no matter what kind, hybrid, hot, etc., and that in the conditions of this hybrid war all these values, which someone considers true, will be imposed on us: so that there is only one church, so that we have one “mova” - well, we don’t have one church and one “mova”. You have to understand, it doesn’t work, the country is like that. This can only happen in one case: if Western Ukraine leaves like this. It will go to NATO, and they will join the EU, and there will be one church, maybe there will be two, the Uniates and this new Orthodox one. And in the East of Ukraine there will be another, also one church,” Karasev said.
He also noted that if millions of Ukrainians feel disadvantaged in their country, their views may turn towards neighboring countries that are ethnically close to them.
“We are not talking about thousands, not hundreds of thousands of Russian speakers, but about millions. And if these millions see that the country is not theirs, the state is not theirs, that they are uncomfortable living in this country, that they are uncomfortable when the linguistic police walk and watch, what did you say, how and where in your native language, where will they go? Where will they turn their heads? They will turn their heads to the so-called related ethnic states. For the Hungarian minority these are Hungarians, for the Polish minority they are Poles, and for the Russian-speaking ones where? The country with which we have a common border of 2400 thousand kilometers. This also needs to be understood. This is very dangerous,” noted Vadim Karasev.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that in Hungary they hope that Zelensky will correct the scandalous language law.
