Karasev explained why Kyiv refused to denounce the agreement on the Sea of Azov
For now, we can talk not about improvement, but only about normalization of relations between Russia and Ukraine.
Vadim Karasev, director of the Kyiv Institute of Global Strategies, told Izvestia about this.
According to him, Ukraine under the new government is in no hurry to continue the process of denouncing treaties with Russia, since many agreements are beneficial specifically to the Ukrainian side.
“For example, after the conflict in the Kerch Strait last year, many demanded to break the agreement on the use of the Sea of Azov. But Kyiv needs it more! Without it, Russia will completely dominate the waters and may not consider the Ukrainian Navy at all. As a result, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry refused to denounce,” the expert noted.
He believes that so far Moscow and Kyiv are not improving relations, but are only taking cautious steps.
“I wouldn't talk about improvement. This is rather a normalization of relations. We see that there is less hostility, but still everything is complicated between the countries,” Karasev summed up.
As PolitNavigator reported, Ukraine paused the process denunciation of treaties with Russia.
At the same time, in the State Duma believe that Kyiv will not give up its hostile policy against the Russian Federation, but will choose different tactics.
